Petition in Support of Protections

Yes. We/I agree that Texas elected officials should immediately support a Constitutional Amendment to protect Texans’ personal property rights lost by the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Kelo v. New London. The risk to Texas homeowners, farmers and ranchers and small employers is too great to wait for this issue to be addressed in 2007. This amendment to the Texas Constitution should clearly prohibit state government, as well as all local, county, and regional municipalities and government entities from using the power of eminent domain for private development.

We/I strongly urge the Governor to include this issue in the call for this and any and all future special sessions. We/I believe that a mere statue that prohibits state government as well as all local, county, and regional municipalities and government entities from using the power of eminent domain for private development is only an interim step, serving only as a temporary solution until a Constitutional Amendment is passed.
